Collection Proof Coins Set - Certificate of Authenticity and Coin Specifications
The 2006 American Legacy Collection Proof Coins Set contained two commemorative silver dollars, a penny, a
nickel, a dime, five quarters, a half dollar and a golden dollar for a total of twelve coins.
A black open-ended envelope attached inside the back of the easel holds the Certificate of Authenticity. Folded
in half, the certificate easily slides into the open slot.
The front of the Certificate of Authenticity identifies the proof coins set with the title, "2006 United States
Mint American Legacy Collection™."
Inside the folded certificate, the Mint Director's message includes:
2006 United States Mint American Legacy Collection™
Certificate of Authenticity
The United States Mint is pleased to present the 2006 American Legacy Collection. By combining brilliant
proof versions of all United States circulating coinage with one proof silver dollar from each of the
commemorative coin programs for 2006, this is the most complete annual collection of genuine United States Mint
coins.
The undersigned hereby certifies that this proof set of 2006 United States coinage was produced by the
United States Mint. The proof versions of each circulating coin, as well as the proof San Francisco Old Mint
Silver Dollar, bear the "S" mint mark of the United States Mint at San Francisco. The proof version of the
Benjamin Franklin "Founding Father" Silver Dollar carries the "P" mint mark of the United States Mint at
Philadelphia, also Franklin's adopted hometown. These commemorative coins were struck in accordance with
legislation passed by Congress and signed by President George W. Bush.
The set also features the 2006 "Return to Monticello" nickel - the final coin of the Westward Journey Nickel
Series™ - commemorating the bicentennials of the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark expedition, along with
the 2006 issues from the 50 State Quarters® Program. The quarter dollars for 2006 honor Nevada, Nebraska,
Colorado, North Dakota and South Dakota.
United States Mint proof coins are produced from carefully selected coin blanks that have been burnished to
a high luster and struck on specially adapted coining presses. Each coin is struck at least twice to bring
forth the smallest detail with remarkable clarity.
Edmund C. Moy, Director, United States Mint
