The 2005 American Legacy Collection Proof Coins Set contained two commemorative silver dollars, a penny, two
nickels, a dime, five quarters, a half dollar and a golden dollar for a total of thirteen coins.
The Certificate of Authenticity is folded and held in a special envelope attached inside the back portion of the
easel.
The front of the Certificate of Authenticity identifies the proof coins set with the title, "2005 United States
Mint American Legacy Collection."
Inside the folded certificate, the Mint Director's message includes:
2005 United States Mint American Legacy Collection
Certificate of Authenticity
The United States Mint is pleased to present the new American Legacy Collection. By combining brilliant
proof versions of all United States circulating coinage with proof versions of each commemorative coin produced
in the same year, collectors are now able to obtain, in one set, the most complete annual collection of genuine
United States Mint coins.
The undersigned hereby certifies that this proof set of 2005 United States coinage was produced by the
United States Mint. The proof versions of each circulating coin bear the "S" mint mark of the San Francisco
facility. The proof versions of both the Chief Justice John Marshall Silver Dollar and the Marine Corps 230th
Anniversary Silver Dollar each carry the "P" mint mark of the United States Mint at Philadelphia. These
commemorative coins were struck in accordance with legislation passed by Congress and signed by President
George W. Bush on August 6, 2004, as Public Laws 108-290 and 108-291 respectively.
The set also features two new nickels which commemorate the bicentennials of the Louisiana Purchase and
Lewis and Clark expedition. The 2005-dated quarters of the 50 State Quarters® Program are also included in this
set, honoring California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas and West Virginia.
United States Mint proof coins are produced from carefully selected coin blanks that have been burnished to
a high luster, highly polished and struck on specially adapted coining presses. Each coin is struck at least
twice to bring forth the smallest detail with remarkable clarity.
Henrietta Holsman Fore, Director, United States Mint
