Coins - 1997 Mint Set -
larger images
Rather than showing the coinage process again, the 1997 mint set included an abstract design on the outer
envelope and the informative insert with the message from the US Mint.
The abstract design could be a marble pattern or it could be two different liquids that do not mix. Below the
design, the "United States Mint" along with the Mint's seal is centered across the front. In addition, "Department
of the Treasury" and "Serving America Since 1792" identifies the Mint.
In the top portion of the inside of the insert, a large blue and white version of the US
Mint's seal contrasts against the pale blue-gray background.
The bottom section identifies "The 1997 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set." Below the title, blue
text over the pale blue background describes the coins and the mint set process. They provide
insights into the Mint's "exacting standards" and their efforts to protect the uncirculated coins. Except for
the "1997," this text is exactly the same message as that included in the previous few years' mint
sets.
On the back of the insert in the 1997 mint set, a grid identifies the coin specifications for each of the
five uncirculated coins in the mint set. The coin specifications include the metal composition, the
weight and the size in addition to the designs and the artists for the obverse and reverse of each
coin.
