Coins - 1992 Prestige Set
Certificate of Authenticity and Coin Specifications
The certificate for the 1992 Prestige Set is larger than most. Printed on large paper, the certificate was
folded in half then in half again before being placed with the set.
The front of the folded Certificate of Authenticity shows the heraldic eagle prevalent among many of the US
Mint's designs. At the bottom, the certificate notes "The 1992 U.S. Olympic Coins Prestige Set."
The Mint used a cream colored paper with burgundy and blue print.
On the back, the Mint's seal in blue is printed over "Department of the Treasury United States Mint."
In small print at the bottom, they recognize their green efforts by "Printed on recycled paper."
Inside the first fold, the US Mint identifies the obverse and reverse designers of the two commemorative
coins.
The recognition of the designers states: ----------
The Designers
SILVER ONE DOLLAR COIN
Obverse Designer: A life-long illustrator and designer, John R. Deecken, produces illustrations and graphics for
several national magazines and corporations. Dividing his time between computerized art and hands-on drawing, he
utilizes the best of both worlds in his work. A resident of Fairfield, Connecticut, Mr Deecken has a Bachelor of
Fine Arts Degree in Graphics from the University of Connecticut.
Reverse Designer: Marcel Jovine, is one of America's best known and most respected medallic sculptors. His work
includes the 1987 U.S. Constitution Gold Five Dollar Coin, the reverse of the 1988 Olympic Gold Five Dollar Coin
and the reverse of the 1990 Eisenhower Centennial Silver Dollar. This Italian-born artist is one of only thirty-two
international sculptors who have been honored with the prestigious J. Sanford Saltus Award for life achievement in
the medallic arts.
CLAD HALF DOLLAR COIN
Obverse Designer: William C. Cousins, a member of the Engraving Staff of the United States Mint, has wide
experience in medallic design and sculpture. This Philadelphia native studied advertising design and art at the
Philadelphia Museum College of Art. His most recent work for the Mint includes the obverse portrait for the
Laurance S. Rockefeller Congressional Gold Medal and the reverse of the H. Norman Schwarzkopf medal.
Reverse Designer: Steven M. Bieda, a self-taught artist who enjoys working in various media, describes his art
as an avocation and credits his artistic development to "researching methods and styles, and a lot of practice."
Mr. Bieda, a native of Warren, Michigan, developed his interest in numismatics out of his varied interests in
history and sculpture.
