Coins - 1988 Proof Set
Certificate with Coin Specifications
With minor changes, the US Mint continued the addition of a pale purple card in the 1988 proof set box with the
details about each of the five proof coins in the set. The card, slightly smaller in length and width, easily fit
in the proof set box with the lens holding the proof coins.
On one side of the thick card stock included with the 1988 proof set, the Treasury Department's seal for the US
Mint is printed in purple ink. The seal includes a shield with a set of scales at the top and a key at the bottom
separated by thirteen stars in a chevron pattern. Around the seal are the words "Treasury" at the top and "United
States Mint" at the bottom.
The purple card's opposite side holds the information about the coins in the proof set. In bold purple ink, the
title on the card states: "United States Mint Proof Coin Set" with a smaller printed subtitle of
"Specifications."
