2024 American Gold Eagle One Ounce Coin

Amidst the rain, the August 2024 Greater Atlanta Coin Show welcomed guests to a bourse filled with dealers and their showcases with a variety of treasures such as coins, currency, bullion and collectibles.

This month, the show enjoyed a large number of people from early morning to mid afternoon. Thank you all for coming to the show. You are welcome. We hope you enjoyed yourself and will come again.

Guests are welcome to visit the show to browse, buy, sell or trade numismatic treasures with one or more of the many dealers.

People are also welcome to bring items for free verbal appraisals, after which they can choose to sell or keep their items.

For the August show, the weather gave us temperatures in the mid 80s and significant rain showers off and on during the day.
As always, it was a great day to visit a coin show.

Of course, we appreciate our visitors, our dealers, our security team and the hotel's staff for contributing to the show each month and helping make it an enjoyable place to spend a few hours. A big THANK YOU to all of you.

For August, a number of new people came to the show to ask questions and learn more about coins, currency and precious metals.
Unfortunately, a few of the new folks described bad experiences buying coins and bullion over the internet. They appreciated being able to talk to our dealers and learn more about the items in which they were interested.

One gentleman commented that he was impressed with how friendly the dealers were in answering questions.

With the rise in the gold prices on the commodity market, dealers at the August show began selling out of gold quickly. If you are interested in owning bullion, it's good to arrive at the show early in the day.

With gold in mind, let's take a look at just a few gold ladies seen at the show.
1907 Counterfeit St. Gaudens High Relief Double Eagle Coin
Though, the coin's counterfeiter maintained the correct weight and gold content at 90%.

It's fake, but it's a well-recognized fake as being manufactured by the "Omega Man."

The person or persons remain a mystery even today even after creating thousands of fakes including ten dollar and three dollar gold coins in addition to the 1907 St. Gaudens High Relief Gold Double Eagle coin.
Our first specimen for this month is a beautiful 1907 St. Gaudens High Relief Double Eagle gold coin.

However, there's one problem. It's not a real 1907 St. Gaudens Gold Double Eagle.
2021 Type 2 American Gold Eagle Quarter Ounce Coin
"For the first time since their debut more than three decades ago, the reverse (tails) of American Eagle Gold Proof Coins features a newly designed portrayal of an eagle, created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Jennie Norris and sculpted by United States Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” along with the face value and weight."
In March 2021, the US Mint released the last of the Type 1 Gold Eagle reverse design by Miley Busiek showing a family of eagles.

In July of 2021 (proof) and October 2021 (uncirculated), a new design was introduced for the American Gold Eagle coins as described by the US Mint:
The newly designed American Gold Eagle also included improvements to the St. Gaudens obverse design:

"To render a closer reflection of Saint-Gaudens’ original vision, legacy details have been restored that include modifications to the U.S. Capitol Building, stars, torch, sun rays, and other design elements based on the original bronze cast."

This quarter ounce American Gold Eagle coin from 2021 is one of the first with the new eagle and the improved obverse design.
The "Omega Man" signed his fakes with a small Omega  embedded within the coin's design.

On some coins, they hid the Omega symbol within the "R" in LIBERTY on the obverse.

For the 1907 St. Gaudens High Relief Double Eagle Coin, the Omega symbol occurs within the eagle's claw on the coin's reverse design.

Even though they are counterfeit, these coins honor the gold content and weight and have at least the value of gold.

However, some people offer a premium over the value of gold just to own an "Omega Man" counterfeit.

To each his own.

The coin is not as beautiful as a true St. Gaudens, but it still has an interesting story to tell.
2022 American Gold Eagle Quarter Ounce Coin
Regardless of weight and denomination, all of the American Gold Eagles are made with  22 Karat gold and are 0.9167 pure.

The US Mint sells proof American Gold Eagles to the collecting public, however for bullion Gold Eagles, people can buy from dealers who obtain the bullion gold from the US Mint.

This 2022 gold lady is just another example of the beauty of the American Gold Eagle program.
In 2022, the US Mint continued the American Gold Eagle design began in 2021.

They began selling the proof version in March and the uncirculated version in June.
2024 American Gold Eagle One Ounce Coin
Still for sale on the US Mint's web site, they describe it as:

"The 2024 American Eagle One Ounce Gold Uncirculated Coin is crafted with the highest level of detail.

"Includes anti-counterfeiting variable reeding

"Struck at the United States Mint at West Point

"Quantities are limited-don’t miss this “golden” opportunity to add this stunning coin to your collection!"
Our last gold lady looks very similar to the 2021 and 2022 quarter ounce versions, however she is a one ounce Gold American Eagle from 2024.

Though the US Mint limits gold bullion sales to specific approved dealers, they do offer uncirculated one ounce coins.
The 2024 Gold American Eagles can be found at coin shows too.

She's beautiful lady and is a good way to add gold to your collection.
