Proof Sets and Mint Sets #2

Yesterday’s message was intended for the new or inexperienced owner of proof and mint sets. Today, let’s include comments directed to the dealer community.

Really, the cautions are much the same with the addition of, “please do not put price stickers, bar code stickers, cost codes or anything else on the boxes and envelopes.”

Peeling stickers or removing written information is at best time-consuming and at worst impossble. Damaged packages are much harder to sell and frequently require discounting. Logic implies that if one has to spend a lot of time with the packaging or has to discount to sell the sets, the price to buy must be less as well.

Think of the coins as antiques to be protected with their original packaging intact and undamaged. When you are ready to sell, the sets will bring the highest value available at that time.
