US Mint Proof Sets

Recent announcements from the US Mint’s Pressroom:

First, today, May 13, marks the beginning of sales for the first America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set. 2010 starts the America the Beautiful Quarters program which will run for eleven years. Five quarters will be released each year for the 50 states in this year and the next nine years with the eleventh year including quarters from the six territories.

The first five quarters in the America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set are Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas; Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming; Yosemite National Park in California; Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona; and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon.

The Hot Springs America the Beautiful Quarter was launched in April with pomp and circumstance at the Hot Springs National Park. From the US Mint’s schedule, it appears Yellowstone will be available in June, Yosemite in July, Grand Canyon in September and Mount Hood in November.

In addition to announcing the availability of the new America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set, the US Mint also alerted numismatists and investors that sales of the 2009 products honoring the bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth year with the one cent coins will be discontinued on June 15, 2010 at 5 pm Eastern time.

They further caution that no orders – telephone, online or via mail – will be accepted after this cut off date.
